Part time job

Sorry for the delay.... few days back a classmate rang me up with a part time job offer .... It was at some music academy in mylapore.... Though even he himself wasn't sure what the job was he told me to reach there on wednesday to get a briefing of what the job was about.

So somehow i reached the place at 4.45 in evening. Turns out the place is a place where all the carnatic music concerts take place. Its around a 100 years old or so. Anyways theres some TAG company. And its owner some mr. chary , who (apparently) is a member of the board of the music academy, has this HUGE collection of performances of kutcheries(term for public concert in carnatic music lovers language) of various artists. And it includes some rare, old stuff too.

Anyways ...so this gentleman wants to share his collection with other carnatic music lovers so hes converted a portion of the academy into a a digital music archive. He has 10 touch screen computers put in a bug air conditioned room with a fantastic ambience. The place is a music lovers paradise. And our (me, the classmate, and his friend) job is to help the people who come to listen to the songs in navigataing the systems because unfortunately most of the people are old since lesser and lesser people fro the younger generation have an interest.

So for helping out people with navigating this stuff we get lunch allowance and 300 bucks a day. I thought to myself "What the heck .... i am anways bored and have nothing better to do.. Might as well go for this.."So on thursday we had sort of a practice session we were prepared to deal with elderly people and anticiapte their requests before they could ask, and also suggested a few minor changes in the software to mae it more elderly friendly. And since friday was the day when they would inaugrate the december music festival they would announce opening of the digital archives thngy on the same day.

Anyways friday evening i reached there... since we had to wear kurtas and jeans i brought a kurta with me and changed quickly. Since the launch and all was at 7 and later we were asked to assist in the parking arangements. It was utter mad house. Though i saw an old patti(tamil-grandma) arrive in a chaffeured BMW 520i !!! Nice son !! Also saw old people driving themselves. This particular patti( in a maruti omni nonetheless) ,easily 65+ and her hubby in the backseat, do a perfect 3 point parking that literally made my jaw drop !!

Anyways once the music festival was formally launched and all the stuff over people literally poured in ... There wasnt room to swing a cat... anyways once it all got over we all trooped home exhausted.

On monday we again came but apparently the vice president and governor of india were visting so werent allowed in !! WE went back grumbling and cursing. Though at this point i must ask... Do the politicains here work at all ?? i mean all they seem to do is roam around in their Z-level security attending functions...damn them all .. _|_

Chucking that matter aside, on tuesday we came back, albeit grudgingly, stayed the whole day at went back at night exhausted. Ditto for today. And one thing i have observed and am impressed by is that old people sure are true music lovers. Most of 'em. Put of their favourite artist/song and they are transported to their own world of ecstacy that is literally a delight to watch !!!

Anyways since i was only filling in temporarily for somebody today was the last day. Came back exhausted yet delighted. Have just earned my first 900 rupees. It was an nice experience.

And yeah.. from tomorrow back to lazing around, sleeping and yeah.. Gymming :) .. Hey ! am a normal guy !!

So long until next time .. adios amigos !

P.S on the last day.. wednesday that is, i found i Audi R6 in the parking lot... Man some parents have really caring children !
