Bursting the bubble

You humans are very fickle creatures.

You make numerous promises to others , resolutions to yourselves (new year ones and otherwise) vows, oaths , ma/bhagwan/doodhwale ki kasam and what not and yet you mostly fail to keep them.

Let's take an example. Say you had this real close friend long ago. You both have a blast with each other around and get along like two buttered muffins in the same basket *fill in happy imagery here*

Then comes the bad schmuck. She gets committed ,you try to be happy. She gets too busy, you try to be upbeat. She soon forgets you,  you get annoyed.

You feel betrayed.

Your ensuing bad temper and sourness for the next few days could scare the flies off a manure truck. And when that phase is over you make promises to yourself to not give a diddly-squat about her , not bother if she tries to contact and all the usual schazoo you do when you are mad at somebody you actually (used to) give a damn about.

And when she messages you every now and then you ignore it proud of yourself for being able to be "cold and distant".

They soon stop.

You actually start hanging out with your other friends. Yeah sure you miss the 'other friend' (as you refer to her now) but hey you are having a decent time. You actually marvel that you can have a good time with other friends too. Plus you soon begin realise there are actually a lot of cute girls in the college and in your neighbourhood. Why didn't anybody tell you sooner ?

Weeks pass and she becomes an almost a distant memory that comes into your mind once in a while when you see other good friends behaving like nutters. You remember the time you both got drunk and behaved like idiots. Especially the part where you both shouting abuses at the little children in the neighbourhood terrorising the bejesus out of them. You smile to yourself.

Months go by and you barely even remember her voice whereas once upon a time you both could have told each other's family history even when woken up at 3 in the night.

Your phone bills drop drastically, your friends are happy with you and so are your parents...Hey life's good right ?

Wrong. Because no person,friends or even that cute junior will ever match up to what you guys had.

But life goes on.Exams, co curricular activities,football and even katy perry keep you busy.

And then one day when you least expect it you get a phone call, out of the blue, from a number that you know by heart. You stare at the blinking screen with disbelief. A few seconds later your brain reminds your hand to pick up the darn thing and press the button with a tiny green phone on it.You obey instantly and from the moment you hear the trepid 'hello' you realise all your promises to yourself of being cold hearted won't work. Not with her at least.

You talk. Slowly, hesitatingly. Shock, anger, happiness ,sadness all pass through you in rapid succession making a proper speech seem like an herculean task. You put the phone down soon.

The conversation might have lasted barely a few minutes but the effect it has on you is drastic , miraculous in fact. You can't stop smiling. You know you should be angry and being aloof but you decide "ah what the heck".

And for once placements,GPA, IIM, GMAT, GRE ,CAT,SCJP  and all the possible permutations of English alphabets take a back seat.

Cuz life is good.

And your promise to yourself ? Fuck that shit. After all promises are meant to be broken right ?

Or was it rules ?

Not that i care.
